This beautifully detailed watercolor painting by Marcela Hampel gives the viewer a close-up view of magnolia blossoms. Rendered in rich shades of pinks and white she captures the delicate beauty of these flowers. Her play of light and shadows in the background and stems give a sense of depth. The soft muted tones of the background gives balance to the painting.
Working with watercolors requires a delicate touch and an understanding of how colors spread and blend on the paper. I found it to be the hardest of all the mediums, yet Marcela brings nature to life in all her paintings, one breathtaking stroke at a time.
When Marcela came to America from Argentina, painting was her way of communicating, as she slowly accoladed to the different climates and customs.
You can view her work at Village Square, 701 Market Street. Learn more about Marcela.
